Why do I write?

It keeps me asleep at night
Dreaming tight, tucked in
To frequencies of the senses
Daylight can’t keep quiet

I write to keep you
Safe from harm

If I didn’t write
I’d probably break the world
In two pieces

One for me
Another for throwing
Into the sun

I write because
It’s cheaper than therapy
Because my words won’t judge me
Because I can be a danger to other artistic mediums

I write to understand myself better
I write to release metaphysical orgasms

I write to share a shade of my mind
To hold tight onto this moment in time
To comfort myself, reassure myself
Everything’s alright

Just in case
You don’t know
Why I write, please
Take a second
And read this poem
One more time
